Poetry Friday--Sketchbook Project 2016

I've begun the Sketchbook Project for 2016. The theme I chose this year from the list of options is "Hark! Angels!" I posted my first illustrated poem on a Sunday, so you may have missed it. You can find it here. I have a few more poems written, so expect to see more down the road!

Rather than cut and paste illustrated poems into the sketchbook, I may get brave and actually do my illustrations directly on paper. Like a real artist. We'll see...

The poem for today doesn't even have an angel in it, but I have my poetic license to guard me against nit-pickers.

  1. I am glad you have your poetic license, Diane. This is something to contemplate, or just laugh out loud too. I will look for your drawings!

    1. I don't draw! It would be collage and mixed media. Sort of what I do with photo editing.

  2. Diane, your version of heaven is simply charming and a laugh out loud reading when you get to the end. I am eager to see your artwork. There is a thank you in my post today since you were among the first to get in your Spring Symphony offering.

  5. Hah! Only you, Diane, would come up with an ending like that. What a hoot. Love the kitties, of course, and your use of poetic license in this case. Me, angelic? If you say so . . . here's some angel food cake just for you. :D

  6. Re: No men - maybe men need to do more of that last item on the list; they need need to dance more? At least, my man does. If so, he might make it into heaven...maybe.

  7. Powerful as it is humorous, Diane. I like the idea of no gates for all creatures, men included! =)

    1. It is kind of sad when you think of migrating herds that can no longer migrate. Or woodchucks kicked out of areas they've occupied for probably a thousand years. The examples are endless.

    1. I have a license, but I don't necessarily have a vehicle to get where I need to go!

  9. Hooray for the Poetic License! And your vehicle is definitely your imagination!

  11. Glad your earlier "resolve" not to do the project this go-round didn't last long... And I'm chuckling with everyone else about the ending of this poem! (Don't tell my hubby. Though I actually wonder if the cats might let him in....)
Re. angels, I always think of Nancy Willard - her writing and photos. I think she's one of my angels.

  12. I haven't read any of Nancy Willard's angel books. I will have to wait until I finished with the project. If Willard's poems are outstanding, then I may get scared off!

  13. I do hope the cats make a few special allowances for folks like you & me!

    1. Are you kidding? Give a break to the people who try to brush them, or take them to the vet, or who refuse to give out treats when they've been requested?
