Unhappy Haiga Day

The following is reflective of my state of mind on this 15th anniversary of September 11. The 2016 election season has only exacerbated my negativity.

To counteract the despair expressed above, I suggest you listen to this NPR segment that was broadcast yesterday:

  1. Oh, that story of how the Newfoundlanders helped the stranded passengers made me cry, and I don't cry easily. I hadn't ever heard about the scholarship fund - even more tears about that. I especially like the reminder from Shirley Brooks-Jones about continuing to believe most people are good, that they are kind and generous to strangers. It's important to hold on to that belief when xenophobia rears its ugly head, as it seems to be doing in America and around the world lately.

    1. Yes, there were tears shed here, too. Every little once in a while we need to be reminded of the goodness of people. Stories like the generosity of the people of Gander do the trick! And, the generosity of the people grounded in Newfoundland has changed the lives of hundreds of students through the scholarship program. How much mutual good we can do when we leave the "us" vs. "them" mentality behind.
