Happy Haiga Day!
Tabatha Yeatts asked a number of poet friends to participate in writing about hand marked paper ballots. The poems were to be included in a Poetry Friday post she was planning. I love a challenge, so I accepted her invitation! I have a poem called "Ballot" in Tabatha's post. I recommend checking out the variety of poems that are included.
The poem below, isn't about the paper ballot issue directly, but was written to reflect my thoughts on those who would subvert an election through fraud and interference.

Text:
Hansel and Gretel Tried: An Election Fable
"Just wait, Gretel, until the moon rises, and then we shall see the crumbs of bread..." Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm
The evolving nature of cyberthreats means that securing the election data and infrastructure can never be 100 percent sure. Lee C. Bollinger and Michael A. McRobbie
Hansel and Gretel tried
to find home by leaving
a trail of crumbs behind.
They thought themselves
secure by tearing up
a crusty loaf of bread.
It seemed a perfect solution--
easy to do and the crumbs
not easily seen by witches.
Hansel and Gretel tried,
but they didn't count on
avian vision and hunger.

I wrote this yesterday for a poetry group. It fits on a sticky, too!

amassing clouds
awaken him from reverie
he pulls his collar closer
as the trees, too, appear
to shiver in the cold
...winter abides

Happy Haiga Day!
I wrote this cherita terbalik for a Facebook poetry group challenge yesterday, but I made some minor changes before posting this illustrated version.
The radiator in the photo sits on the stairway wall between the first and second floor in my mansard-roofed building. I live on the top/third floor and when it is quiet in the apartment, I can hear the old radiator hissing.

there is something
comforting in the hissssss
of the cast iron radiator
water-to-heat every
winter for 147 years
and curves so lovely

Happy Haiga Day!
I participated in another Spark postcard exchange created by Amy Souza (see label on right for more about Spark) during the month of January. I've been feeling a bit downhearted of late with the continuing decline of decency in this country, especially with regard to he whose-name-shall-not-be-mentioned, and his drink-the-Kool-Aid followers, so, I decided to create my postcards around the theme of laughter. I think it's the only thing that'll get us through 2020 and beyond.
There were 4 exchangees this time. I wrote haiku for three of the postcards, and a cherita for the fourth.

were a "thing"
