Four times a year I take part in an original postcard exchange that has been organized by Amy Souza, the founder of Spark Art from Writing: Writing from Art. I had the month of January to create four postcards to send to people in Florida, New York, Oregon, and Virginia. To say that the winter here in New England has been a challenge is an understatement, so all my postcards had winter as their unifying theme.

Viait our friend, Sally Murphy, for this week's Poetry Friday Round-Up coming to us from the other side of the world.
These are all amazing Diane - such a perfect match of image and words. I think the last is my favourite.
ReplyDeleteIt may be my favorite too!
DeleteBrrrrr....I think we're all so ready for spring, this winter has been just too much!
ReplyDeleteIt's been particularly icy this year, and for those of us on the far side of youth, it has been particularly harrowing.
DeleteI too have some winter pic-poems on my blog today... and they look a lot unlike this! In fact, I may even have mentioned the lack of snow... As to a fave here... Squirrel? Cat? Mittens? I *think* the mittens?
ReplyDeleteI'm heading there now!
DeleteYou are a master at combining words with art. The third one is my favorite. It reminds me of the memories called forth when coming across items from a loved one who has passed on, too. The sense of smell is very powerful.
ReplyDeleteYes it is, Joyce, some smells can take me back 60 years in a flash!
DeleteI bought three pairs of the exact same gloves so I wouldn't have to worry about matching and wouldn't you know that I don't have a single one any more! Not one. Love these, Diane. So tactile, with the warm cat, last year's scent, the bright snow.
ReplyDeleteI keep at least one lost-mate glove in my car for those mornings when the windows need scraping and I don't want to get my regular gloves all wet.
DeleteLove them all! The first one reminded me of this YouTube video of the snowplowing squirrel. Have you seen it?

I just watched it. I guess squirrels don't think about what would happen with one misstep! Good for them!
DeleteOh, meant to say, I'm sharing your Ekphrastic prompt today.
ReplyDeleteI was just there. That little snake got some interesting poems written about him/her!
DeleteI love that final one, so true. I have "left here" mittens, am often transporting over to the girls. And since I watch squirrels all the time, the first is something I do see, those flurries, of tails & snow! Beautiful cards, Diane!
ReplyDeleteThe squirrel one was inspired by the two squirrels in my backyard the morning after a snowstorm. They were a delight!
DeleteLoved them all, Diane. The mismatched mittens might be my favorite, along with the cat draped around my neck haiku. :)
ReplyDeleteMy late cat, who was rather petite, used to sit on my shoulders. I miss her warmth and affection.
DeleteThese are wonderful, Diane. I especially love the mittens. :-)
ReplyDeleteThat seems to be a favorite--probably because it hits so close to home.
DeleteThese are all beautiful, but that last one made me laugh!
ReplyDeleteLaughter is high praise in my book!
DeleteDiane, I love each one of your image poems. The art work is stunning on #1 and the last one looks like my antique postcards.
ReplyDeleteWould you like to offer #1 and #4 to my Winter Wonderland Gallery. (others can be sent also) Please send to my gmail and also to #WinterWonderland18. Thanks.
DeleteI tried a second time (on 1/30) to send you three haiga, did you ever get them? I'll try posting #1 and #4 to #WinterWonderland18. (I wonder if comcast mail is ending up in your spam folder?)
DeleteThe draped cat and the mittens cracked me up!
ReplyDeleteThe thing about mitten singles is I never seem to be able to part with the one that remains. Will the lost one ever show up? Of course not!
DeleteThese are lovely. The mittens one is so humorous, and the squirrel one made me smile. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteAnd don't you love those old illustrations--I do!
DeleteThese are, as always, stunning, Diane. I loved the one about the squirrel, perhaps because I saw exactly this on my early morning walk today.
ReplyDeleteI find squirrels to be little creatures of joy!
DeleteWonderful, Diane - I'm smitten with the fetching mitten poem as well! (And that vintage image, of course)
ReplyDeletePerfect postcards!
ReplyDeleteThese are all wonderful Diane, but I love the first one and fourth even more, especially giving up looking for matching mittens! Thanks for sharing them.
ReplyDeleteThese are wonderful, Diane! And, as a Kindergarten teacher, I am drawn to the last one. So done with those mittens at recess and dismissal time!
