Happy Haiga Day!

A week or so ago, Robyn Hood Black posted a photo of antique buttons and suggested that her readers use the buttons as inspiration. So here you go, Robyn:

  2. Oh, Diane! Love love love! Thanks so much for playing with that tossed-out idea and creating this perfect marriage of image and poem. (I'm going to print it out & put up in my studio.)
Intrigued by your use of "rusting" (instead of rusted or rusty) - time is an ongoing process, even if a haiku freezes a moment of it. And the hidden story in those buttons is alive....

    1. Indeed. The tin, along with two others not devoted exclusively to buttons, is rusting as we speak.

As for printing, I checked and the image is only 96 dpi although it is 2226 pixels on both sides. Let me know how it comes out. I find it incredibly hard to wrap my mind around the idea of 300 dpi for printing when most of my haiga come in at 96 dpi. If you can tell me what I'm doing wrong, in simple words, I'd appreciate it.

    2. My brain is not the best at wrapping around all that, but the file you sent me is great! Took the print to my studio this morning. :0) (Roughly 5 X 7-ish size.) Keri's response below sounds spot-on.

  3. I have both of my grandmothers' button tins. I've put the buttons in a glass jar so I can see them better. :-) Your poem is perfect. As for your 300 dpi issue, if you are getting your images from the web, most of them are very low resolution which makes them very low dpi. Our staff photographers shoot in RAW format (*very* high resolution) and then adjust the files for print or web use (resize/shrink). Does that help?

    1. The photo is from my little Sony Cyber-shot 12.1 megapixel camera (in a lovely pink housing), which should take fine photos for printing. I will have to figure out how to reset it for high resolution. (I suppose I should unearth the manual and read it.)
