Text:
At the Close of the Year from Hell
"can we hold off
on that cup of kindness?"
...nary a chuckle
our fulsome wishes
almost believable
New Year's toast
waitress hovers
waiting for a reaction
New Year's Eve
a need
to continuously check
the level of ice
the last night's
first resolution:
never again
Head north a wee bit and you'll arrive at Mainely Write where you'll find the last Round-Up of 2016. Have a safe and happy New Year!
Diane, you make me smile. :) I'm pretty sure i've made that "never again" resolution a few times... and broken it! Happy 2017 to you, my friend! xo
ReplyDelete"Never again" is so easy to say, but so hard to follow through on. Happy New Year!
DeleteHope your 2017 has lots of chuckles. Jet
ReplyDeleteChuckles and guffaws are going to be essential, Janet!
DeleteLove the art and the light tone you took. It's getting me in the mood for New Year's Eve. :-)
ReplyDeleteI imagine the art was created for some kind of advertising back in 1878. I love the whimsy.
DeletePerfect pairing of art & words. Reminds me of Gilded Age history. Happy New Year. WE got this.
ReplyDeleteI do hope WE got this--we'll see how it goes. It just might be a matter of surviving with our spirit intact. Happy New Year!
DeleteHumor, irony, and wit, just what I expect and am grateful to get! Here's to a better 2017!
ReplyDeleteIrony is a great tool! I think 2017 will be forgettable, and the sooner we're able to forget it, the better!
DeleteFun! Just the ticket for the end of the year!
ReplyDeleteThe little angel tipplers are cute with their bird cohorts. Happy New Year!
DeleteSo long, 2016, we won't miss you! Here's to 2017!
ReplyDeleteNo we won't! 2017 U.S. should be interesting to watch from Canada! Happy New Year!
DeleteThese are so much fun! I especially like the contrast of the 'innocent' angel images with their roguish comments. Happy New Year, Diane!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the new year's chuckles--we can all use those! I think they work without the picture, but they come across with a more serious tone.
ReplyDeleteI'm open and ready for this brand new year. No resolutions! Cute image to accompany your snippety haiku!
ReplyDeleteChecking the level of ice, indeed. Let us be faithful like the winged children we serve, helping them lift off. Right now I don't have the will to be optimistic for myself, but my children, my students, keep me looking up and out.
ReplyDeleteAs always, Diane, your pairing of words and images provide me with a museum-like experience. I love this sequence. Happy New Year wishes to you.
