Ekphrastic April, Day 2: "At Granny's"

"At Granny's" by Helen Allingham [1848-1926].

a visit with Granny

the kettle always on
a bannock and a pot
of jam at the ready

her tales would make
even the spiders blush

  2. Wonderful painting! Like the implication that granny's tales aren't all sweetness and light . . .

  3. Linda and Jama, it’s been my experience that a goodly number of old grannies lose their inhibitions and move toward sauciness in their later years!

  4. The kettle always on: that's my kind of house!

  5. Have you read Erdrich's The Round House? This granny reminds me of one of the elders in that book!

    1. I read it when it first came out a few years back and I remember laughing at loud at some of her remarks.
